Up-and-coming baritone Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha is a strong force emerging in the operatic scene. Heralded for his "reverberant, expressive baritone with outstanding diction" (Opera News) and "confident, robust Italian singing" (Times Union), Haumschilt-Rocha is enjoying much success in his young opera career.
Recently, Trevor has been awarded a 2024 Sara Tucker Study Grant from the Richard Tucker Foundation, 1st Prize in the 2024 Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition, a 2024 Career Bridges Grant, and 1st Prize in the Opera at Florham International Vocal Competition.
Trevor joins the Opernstudio at Volksoper Wien for the 2024-26 seasons, with his European debut coming in November as Robert in Jolanthe und der Nussknacker, a hybrid performance of Tchaikovsky's Iolanta and Nutcracker. Additional role assignments include Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, 1st Priest in Die Zauberflöte, and König Hildebrand/Herr Nordwind/Chorus 7 in Das verzauberte Schwein by Jonathan Dove. Cover assignments include Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Kaiser Overall in Kaiser Requiem, Morales in Carmen, and Rambaldo/Ramonnier in La Rodine.
In the summer of 2024, Trevor will be joining the Aspen Music Festival as a Renée Fleming Fellow. At the festival, he will perform the role of Peter in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. In the summer of 2023, Trevor joined Opera Saratoga as a Festival Artist, making his professional debut as the role of Dottore Malatesta in Don Pasquale.
Trevor is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School, where he studied under the tutelage of Kevin Short earning his master's degree. In the 2023-24 Juilliard Opera season, Trevor played the roles of Joe Harland in Later the Same Evening by John Musto and Alcesta in Francesco Cavalli's Erismena. He will also made his Alice Tully Hall debut in Juilliard Vocal Arts' Wednesday at One concert series, along with a concert in collaboration with the New York Festival of Song and Juilliard titled Rorem at 100. In 2022-23, Trevor performed the role of Johannes "Pa" Zegner in Proving Up by Missy Mazzoli in Juilliard's production directed by Mary Birnbaum, and covered the role of Marco in Gianni Schicchi.
Trevor is also a graduate of San Diego State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance under the instruction of Laurinda Nikkel. At San Diego State, Trevor performed the roles of Don Hilarión in the zarzuela La Verbena de la Paloma by Tomás Bretón, Orfeo in Jacopo Peri's Euridice, Minksman in Jonathan Dove's Flight, King Melchior in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Baritone I in Weill's Seven Deadly Sins. Trevor also had the opportunity to work alongside composers Jake Heggie and Ricky Ian Gordon in concert and masterclass series.
Additionally, Trevor has been named a scholarship recipient for the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego in 2022 and 2023. He was named a Semi-Finalist for Houston Grand Opera's Concert of Arias in 2024. Also in 2023, Trevor was awarded the Emerging Artist Award from the Opera Index Vocal Competition and an Encouragement Award from the Gerda Lissner Foundation Lied/Song Competition.
