Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha is emerging on international stages and is heralded for his "reverberant, expressive baritone with outstanding diction" (Opera News) and "confident, robust Italian singing" (Times Union).

 

Second Place winner of the 2024 NEUE STIMMEN, the young Mexican-American baritone also was awarded a 2024 Sara Tucker Study Grant from the Richard Tucker Foundation, First Prize in the 2024 Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition, First Prize in the Opera at Florham International Vocal Competition, and a Munday Encouragement Grant Award from the Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition.

 

At the invitation of Artistic Director Lotte de Beer, Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha joined the Opernstudio of Volksoper Wien in autumn 2024 and is now in his second season with the company.  Highlights of the baritone’s Volksoper season include performances of Conte Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Falke in Die Fledermaus, and Kaiser Overall in KaiserRequiem, interweaving Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis with the Mozart Requiem, as an artistic dialogue between these two works about the great questions of human existence. A notable highlight this season is the baritone’s debut at Opernhaus Zürich, where he assaysMonterone in Rigoletto.

 

Last season at the Volksoper, Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha made his European debut as Robert in Jolanthe und der Nussknacker, a hybrid presentation of Tchaikovsky's Iolanta and Nutcracker, and further performances with the company included roles in Die Fledermaus, Die Zauberflöte, and Das verzauberte Schwein by Jonathan Dove.  He was a member of the Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project in summer 2025 and made a Salzburg Festival debut in a new production by KrzysztofWarlikowski of Macbeth under the baton of Philippe Jordan. He also performed in a concert presentation of Andrea Chénier led by Marco Armiliato.

 

Having spent the summer of 2024 at the Aspen Music Festival as a Renée Fleming Fellow and under the tutelage of Ms. Fleming and Patrick Summers, co-Artistic Directors of Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS, Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha performed the roles of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro and Peter in Hänsel und Gretel in fully-staged productions and appeared in a broad range of recitals and concerts with programming from Franz Schubert to Chris Thile. 

 

Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha made his professional debut as Malatesta in Don Pasquale at Opera Saratoga in 2023 as a Festival Artist and is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School where he studied with Kevin Short, earning his Master's degree.  While at Juilliard, he performed the roles of Joe Harland in Later the Same Evening by John Musto and Alcesta in Francesco Cavalli's Erismena.  He made his Alice Tully Hall debut in Juilliard Vocal Arts' Wednesday at One concert series and collaborated with the New York Festival of Song in the program, Rorem at 100.  Other activities included Johannes "Pa" Zegner in Proving Up by Missy Mazzoli in Juilliard's production conducted by Steven Osgood and directed by Mary Birnbaum, as well as Marco in Gianni Schicchiconducted by Daniela Candillari and directed by John Giampietro.

The baritone is a proud alum of San Diego State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance under the instruction of Laurinda Nikkel.  There he appeared in an array of programming including the zarzuela La Verbena de la Paloma by Tomás Bretón, Jacopo Peri's Euridice, Jonathan Dove's Flight, Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Weill's Seven Deadly Sins.  It was at San Diego State University that Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha also had the opportunity to work alongside composers Jake Heggie and Ricky Ian Gordon in concert and masterclass series.
